ABOUT US

"Canadians taking action, in partnership with Afghan women, toward improving conditions of
human rights, ending women's oppression, and providing opportunities for Afghan women to live their lives with dignity, certainty and purpose."

Canadian Women for Women in Afghanistan (CW4WAfghan) is a not-for-profit organization founded in 1998 to advance education and educational opportunities for Afghan women and their families and to educate Canadians about human rights in Afghanistan. Donor-funded projects fall within our four main field program areas: (1) Investments in Basic Education; (2) Community Libraries, Literacy and Books Program; (3) Technology for Education; and (4) Public Engagement. For a list of the projects that fall within these programs, visit PROGRAMS.

CW4WAfghan is a non-religious, non-political, federally registered charity in Canada (Canada Revenue Agency #887718203RR0001). Through our network of members in chapters and regions across Canada, CW4WAfghan strives to raise a minimum of $700,000 per annum to meet our program funding objectives. Please click HERE to learn about our chapter network and visit our EVENTS三分pk拾计划下载 calendar for activities in your region.

What We Do

In Canada, CW4WAfghan has approximately 2,000 registered supporters and members who have the opportunity to engage together through the regional chapter network. CW4WAfghan has sustained a dynamic group of core volunteers since its inception, which has seen steady growth since our founding. These members serve in a variety of volunteer capacities from leading chapter meetings, to event planning, public outreach and education, and advocacy activities. Other volunteers support the national office’s activities, including serving on one of the national committees, or providing virtual volunteer services such as research and communications tasks. In addition, every year, hundreds of Canadians host Breaking Bread potluck dinners to fundraise for CW4WAfghan’s education projects in Afghanistan.

In Afghanistan, our dynamic and talented team of Afghan professionals manage, implement, monitor and provide support services for CW4WAfghan’s programs and operations. CW4WAfghan has successfully supported and implemented hundreds of education projects for two decades, with proven project management systems and accountability measures in place. CW4WAfghan currently has a project portfolio that includes schools and school equipment, teacher training, educational resources, literacy classes and libraries, in several provinces.

Why Education?

三分pk拾计划下载since our founding, cw4wafghan has contributed to women’s empowerment through a variety of sectors including education, healthcare, rights awareness, and economic development. over the years, the evidence emerged that education was the most strategically important area in which we could invest, where funds raised could travel the furthest and leave an impact in present and future generations. access to quality education, from adult literacy classes to having trained teachers in public schools, contributes to every other social, economic, and political development objective of afghanistan. we therefore have gradually streamlined our activities to come within the thematic area of education, with the goal of helping to build afghanistan’s human capital.

三分pk拾计划下载we interpret education broadly. we’re advancing education through community libraries, literacy classes for women and men of all ages, training teachers, furbishing schools with science laboratory materials, and helping teachers get access to resources like lesson plans, textbooks and visual aides. we pay teachers’ salaries and rent for school buildings, we have provided wells, school bags, and mini libraries. we work closely with our partner organizations to assist them to manage education projects effectively and efficiently through our capacity-building support. for example, cw4wafghan partners attend free workshops on topics like good organizational governance, results-based project management, and performance measurement; and we work with them to design promising projects.

education is a basic, universal human right. the people of afghanistan have demonstrated an intense demand for education, for both girls and boys, since this right once again fell within their grasp following the end of the taliban regime in late 2001. we are pleased to respond to this demand with a focus on access to quality education. we also recognize the link between quality education and peacebuilding, and believe that a literate population with access to viable education and economic opportunities will be afghanistan’s greatest stabilizing force and its best hope for a lasting peace.
